Jim Ablan is a founding principal of Beacon Realty Capital, where he is responsible for originating and placing all types of debt and equity financing, initiating and maintaining correspondent and lender relationships, and directing the production staff administration.
Mr. Ablan delivers more than 25 years of diversified real estate investment experience to Beacon clients. He began his career in the real estate investment department at The Prudential Insurance Company, where his responsibilities included mortgage lending, acquisitions, development and sales of income-producing property of more than $1 billion during this seven-year tenure there.
In 1983, Mr. Ablan opened a Chicago office for Trident/Meyer Real Estate Advisors, and as Vice President/Regional Manager was responsible for acquiring and operating a $100 million portfolio of hybrid-debt and equity investments on behalf of various domestic pension funds.
He joined Grubb & Ellis as a Director of the Institutional Investment Group in 1988, where for five years he was consistently among the firm's leading achievers. He led the national production of Grubb & Ellis' Institutional Investment Group, was the leading producer in the Chicago office, and was involved in investment transactions totaling more than $500 million.
Mr. Ablan joined Smith & Johnson, Inc. in 1993 as a Principal. The firm, founded in 1985, became known as Smith Johnson Ablan, Inc., and in 1995 changed its name to Beacon Realty Capital, Inc.
Mr. Ablan earned a B.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics at the University of Wisconsin. While there, he also studied in Copenhagen, Denmark and received the Phi Kappa Phi designation for academic achievement. Mr. Ablan is an active member and past Director of the Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association and an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America. He is a licensed real estate broker in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
